Earth Day Experiment
Hi, all. I’m new to this place and haven’t blogged in many a fortnight. You can see my old blogs at: http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=kittymommy. I’m pretty much here because I follow the Mayfields to wherever they’re blogging, because, well, let’s face it they’re just damn hilarious! My main purpose for blogging today after one year, two months, and 13 days is to tell everyone how we “celebrated” Earth Day. Last week I came up with this idea that I thought was brill: to be a vegan (usually I’m just a veg), go without driving and without using electricity for an entire day---and to cajole my boyfriend into doing this as well. The morning started out good: a walk to Uptown Espresso, because we couldn’t make our own coffee. I made sure to put soymilk in my Americano instead of the usual. Then we missed the bus to Pike Place and didn’t want to wait a half hour so we walked. We struggled to find a breakfast place that was cheap and not packed and found this little whole in the wall in the market across from The Market. Once we got settled in there we realized that, um, this was a Chinese restaurant. There were no fruit options or anything else vegan, so I settled for hashed browns and glass of cran juice. When she brought out my food I couldn’t believe it…on my plate were two of those frozen patty-style browns that you put in the toaster. This was so far from the breakfast that I had envisioned for myself. Then we walked up to Pacific Place because we were going to catch Meet the Robinson’s in 3-D, we sit through the obnoxious pre-game show (y’know, the kind with the quizzes about famous people set to the tunes of Christina Aguilera and the like---kill me), only to have an employee come in and tell us that the movie wouldn’t be showing due to equipment failure. So, we got refunds AND free passes to see it some other time. So, we spent some serious time in Borders (I bought two “green” books) and Jeff needed to get his shoes shined and a new belt. We had lunch then and walked back to his place where we proceeded to nap and read for hours…and hours…and hours before heading out to get Thai food for dinner. We decided that we didn’t do anything really spectacular (except for going without showers and almost losin our vision to reading by candlelight) and that we’d need to stay home next year, because this year we just used other people’s electricity (stores, movie theater, restaurants, etc.). I decided that I’m going to organize an event next year for all of my friends and family to participate in. Like a neighborhood clean up project or something. We’ll get some sweet matching shirts or visors or something. Any way, stay tuned for that. I’m off to Chicago tomorrow for my annual conference. In my spare time at the hotel I hope to complete my Travel Blog from Hawaii which I’ll link to on this page. Until next time…(which hopefully won’t be one year, 2 months, and 13 days!)

Hey,
That's a fantastic idea, going without electricity and such for a day... perhaps you could do it like the sabbath or something, like from sun-up to sundown... but you couldn't go bowling 'cause you can't roll on the sabbath...
If you REALLY want to be hardcore you could do the opposite on October 10th, be a total power hog and eat meat and shit... kinda like when the Stremicks and the Mayfields get together...
And then what happened??? I been hanging on for a month now... I know you got something to say...
